Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 24, 2026 · McCaman LLC
This Privacy Policy describes how McCaman LLC ("we," "us,"
or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you interact with
seanmccaman.com, related subdomains, or any messaging program
we operate (collectively, the "Services"). If you do not agree with this
policy, please do not use the Services.
This website is read-only. seanmccaman.com publishes
content for you to view. It does not accept user accounts, file
uploads, comments, or other user-submitted content. The only place data
flows from you to us through this site is the SMS opt-in flow
described in §4 — everywhere else, we are publishing and you are
reading. The AI tutor described in §9 reads only the page you are on
and what you type into it during your browser session; it does not
transmit your messages to us.
SMS-specific disclosure:
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for
marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors
supporting our operations is permitted only to fulfill the SMS service
itself. All categories of information mentioned in this policy exclude text
messaging originator opt-in data and consent; such information will not be
shared with any third parties.
1. Information we collect
Because seanmccaman.com is a read-only publishing site, the categories
of information we collect through it are narrow:
- Information you provide directly: name, email address,
phone number, postal address, and any other information you submit
through SMS opt-in forms or support requests (email to us). The site
does not offer accounts, file uploads, comments, or other user-submitted
content channels.
- Mobile/SMS program data: if you opt in to receive text
messages, we collect your mobile phone number, the date and time of your
opt-in, the opt-in source, and any messages you send to or receive
from us through the program.
- Usage information: IP address, browser type, pages
visited, timestamps, and similar technical data collected automatically
via server logs when you use the Services.
- Course-page interaction events: for pages under
/acctg5150/, we record aggregate
analytics events when the AI tutor is opened or used — including which
lesson is open, which tier the tutor ran on (on-device vs. copy-paste),
how long a response took, response and error counts, and whether
controls like "Get second opinion" or "Clear conversation" were used.
We do not record the contents of your messages to the tutor,
its responses to you, or any text you type into a page editor.
Tutor conversations are stored only in your browser's session storage
and are cleared when you close the browser.
2. How we use information
- To deliver and operate the Services you requested, including sending
the SMS messages you opted in to receive.
- To respond to questions, support requests, and other communications.
- To secure the Services, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
- To improve the Services — for example, analyzing which pages are
accessed and identifying technical errors.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share
your mobile phone number or the content of SMS messages with third parties
or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers acting on our behalf (for example,
the telecommunications carrier that delivers an SMS message). These
providers are contractually limited to using information only to
perform the service requested.
- Legal compliance: when required by law, subpoena, or
other legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure
is necessary to protect rights, property, or safety.
- Business transfer: in connection with a merger,
acquisition, or sale of assets, provided any recipient honors the
terms of this policy.
4. SMS / messaging program
If you opt in to an SMS program, the following applies:
- Consent is required. You will receive messages only
after affirmatively opting in — for example, by submitting a form,
replying to a confirmation request, or similar verifiable action.
- Message frequency varies based on the purpose of the
program (e.g., transactional alerts, service notifications). You can
expect messages to be occasional rather than continuous.
- Message and data rates may apply based on your mobile
carrier plan. We do not charge for the SMS program itself.
- Opt-out at any time by replying
STOP to
any message. You will receive one confirmation message and no further
messages unless you opt in again.
- Help is available by replying
HELP, or
by emailing sean@mccaman.llc.
- Participation in an SMS program is never a condition of any purchase.
5. How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to
protect information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or
destruction — including encryption in transit, restricted access to
production systems, and periodic review of security practices. No system
is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as needed to provide the
Services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
SMS opt-in records are retained for at least the duration required to
demonstrate consent to telecommunications carriers.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your information, subject to limits that apply
under law (e.g., legal-hold or SMS consent records).
- Opt out of communications at any time (SMS via
STOP;
email via unsubscribe links or replying to a message).
To exercise these rights, email sean@mccaman.llc.
We will respond within a reasonable time consistent with applicable law.
8. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not
knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you
believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will
take appropriate steps to delete it.
9. AI tutor features (ACCTG 5150 course pages)
Course pages under /acctg5150/ embed an AI
tutor that helps students work through interactive exercises. The
privacy posture is intentionally narrow:
- The site itself remains read-only. The tutor does
not transmit your messages or your in-page work back to McCaman LLC.
Conversations live in your browser's session storage and are cleared
when you close the browser tab.
- On supported versions of Google Chrome the tutor
runs on-device using Chrome's built-in language model. Your messages
do not leave your computer. Pages that use this feature participate
in a Google Chrome Origin Trial; Google may collect telemetry about
your use of the Chrome Prompt API under Google's own policies. That
data flow is between you and Google.
- On other browsers the tutor builds a prompt for
you to copy and paste into a third-party AI service of your choice
(for example, ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini). What you choose to paste
and where you paste it is up to you; that provider's privacy policy
governs from that point forward. We are not a party to that
interaction and do not receive the prompt or the response.
- Aggregate event telemetry is collected via Google Analytics
(see §10) — for example, which lesson the tutor was opened
on, which tier ran, response duration, error counts. The contents of
your messages are not part of this telemetry.
- A local consent preference for the on-device tier
is stored in your browser's local storage so we do not re-prompt
every page load. This is stored on your device only; it is never
transmitted to McCaman LLC.
- AI output can be wrong. Please see §4 of our
Terms of Service for the educational-use
disclaimer and verification expectation.
10. Cookies, local storage, and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure aggregate
site usage — pages viewed, features used, errors encountered, and the
AI tutor events described in §1 and §9. GA4 sets cookies and reads
basic browser information; you can control cookies through your
browser settings, and disabling them may affect parts of the Services.
The Services do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.
AI tutor features on the course pages additionally use your browser's
session storage (to keep the current conversation
available while the tab is open; cleared on tab close) and
local storage (to remember your local-AI consent
preference and a small in-browser log of executions you've run on the
page). These values are stored on your device only and are not
transmitted to McCaman LLC.
11. University of Utah / ACCTG 5150 course materials
Pages under /acctg5150/ publish course
materials for ACCTG 5150 (Accounting Analytics) at the David Eccles
School of Business, University of Utah. McCaman LLC hosts these
materials in the instructor's personal capacity. We do not
collect, store, or process University of Utah student records on this
site. Official student records — submissions, grades,
enrollment — are maintained in the University of Utah's
learning-management system (Canvas), not here. The AI tutor described
in §9 sees only the page contents and what the student types into it
during a session; nothing is sent to McCaman LLC.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will
revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the
Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the
revised policy.
